Senior Citizen Auditors
Welcome to Spring 2015 at Hunter College!



Welcome, Senior Citizens, to the SCSA blog. This blog will keep you up to date on the details of the registration process, supply information about the Senior Citizen Students Association, and offer other information of interest to Senior Citizen Auditors.

Important!
Please note that senior auditors are exempt only from proficiency requisites (math, reading, writing), but not real course prerequisites. So, a 300-level advanced course that has real course prerequisites is not automatically open to senior auditors. All senior auditors should still go to the departments to get permission for their courses. There may be a few 100-level introductory courses are exceptions to this rule, but to eliminate any confusion of which 100-level don’t require department permission, Senior auditors should get permission from the departments to register for their courses.
Please scroll down to see a detailed procedure for registering for classes in CUNYfirst. The first section, CLAIMING YOUR CUNYfirst ACCOUNT, contains information for seniors who haven’t yet registered with CUNYfirst. The section Searching for Class Availability describes the procedure for selecting and enrolling in your classes. If you already have a CUNYfirst Username and Password, you may go directly to the second section, SEARCHING FOR CLASS AVAILABILITY.

The registration times are scattered throughout the January 29 senior auditor registration day. To find your registration time, you will first have to log onto CUNYfirst. There are more instructions regarding registration time under SEARCHING FOR CLASS AVAILABILITY.

CLAIMING YOUR CUNYfirst ACCOUNT

If you have not already done so, you must first claim your CUNYfirst account, as follows:
Go to https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu. You can also go to the Hunter home page, http://www.hunter.cuny.eduand click on CUNYfirst SIGN IN on the right hand side of the page. Either option will take you to the CUNYfirst sign in page. At the right of this page is the section for signing in. (See Figure 1.) Underneath the userid and password entry blank spaces is a line that reads: Forgot Your Password?| Change Password | First Time Users. Click on First Time Users. (See Figure 1.)

This action will take you to a page that asks for personal information such as name, last four digits of your social security number, etc. (See Figure 2.)

Please note that the words or numbers you will see in the red box will be different from the ones in this figure.

When you have successfully entered all information as well as the words or numbers in the red box, click OK. This action will take you to a third page that asks you to answer 5 challenge questions that only you would be likely to know. (See Figure 3.)

This action will take you to the page that asks you to enter the password of your choice. You will have to enter it twice; once to choose it and once to confirm it. Your password must be between 8 and 12 characters long, contain one capital letter and one number, for example seNior22. When you have entered your password and confirmed it, click on OK. (See Figure 4.)

When you have successfully created your password and clicked OK you will see a screen that lists your system-assigned username and your employee (EMPLID) number. Please remember this information in whatever way seems the most secure. (See Figure 5.)

SEARCHING FOR CLASS AVAILABILITY

To check class availability you must return to the CUNYfirst login page. Go to https://home.cunyfirst.cuny.edu. You can also go to the Hunter home page, http://www.hunter.cuny.eduand click on CUNYfirst SIGN IN on the right hand side of the page. This time enter the system-assigned username and the CUNYfirst password you created. See Figure 6.

Please note that your password must be changed at regular intervals. Normally you will be notified by email before your current password expires.

When you have logged in, the first screen you see will have much information. At the left of this screen is the ENTERPRISE MENU. The first item on this MENU is Self Service. To proceed to a class search, click Self Service. Then click on Student Center just below Self Service. See Figures 7 and 8.

Clicking on Student Center (below Self Service) will take you to a page with a good deal of personal information. To search for classes, click on the light green box (Search for Classes) at the top far right. (See Figure 9.) The Student Center page in Figure 9 is mine. When you have logged in yourself, you will see your own page. Below the light green SEARCH FOR CLASSES box are several blue pulldown menus.
Clicking the arrow on the third blue box from the top (ENROLLMENT DATES) will show you the date and time at which you are permitted to register.

Clicking on SEARCH FOR CLASSES will take you to the first search page. (See Figure 10.) You don’t have to fill in all the pulldown menus. Figure 11 shows the minimum number of menus needed to get you to the next search page.
NOTE: You must select  'Undergraduate' in the Course Career menu to view the courses available to Senior Auditors.

Below the pulldown menus shown in Figures 10 and 11 are more pulldown menus to help you narrow down your search. (See Figure 12.) Shown in Figures 10 and 11 is a Show Open Classes Only box. To see all classes, not just the open ones, you must unselect this option by clicking on it.

When you click the light green SEARCH button shown in Figure 12, you will see the results of your search. (See Figure 13.)

If you need to perform another search, click on the light green new search button at the top and bottom of your search-results page. The top of the search results is shown on Figure 14. Please note that you may need to re-enter the INSTITUTION and TERM information shown in Figure 11.

When you find your desired course, click the ‘select class’ button to the right of the section you have chosen. A screen will appear, indicating the course has been added to your shopping cart (See Figure 15):

To go to your shopping card click on 'Shopping Cart' at the top of the upper right hand box. You must register for your course(s) from your shopping cart. (See Figure 16).




Once you are allowed to register, as noted in the Enrollment Dates section of your Student Center page, click the Select box to the left of your selected class and section. Then click the ‘enroll button at bottom right. (See Figure 17.)

You are now almost done. To finish enrolling, click on the light green Finish Enrolling button at the bottom right. (See Figure 18.)

The next window will tell you if you have enrolled in the class. (See Figure 19.)

When you have enrolled successfully you will see the screen shown in Figure 19. From there you have several options. You may Make a Payment, view your Class Schedule, or Add Another Class by clicking on the chosen option below the class and message boxes. (See Figure 19 again.)

Congratulations! If you see a green check mark under Status, you have successfully enrolled in your class. If instead you see a red X, you will have to find out why you couldn’t register. Perhaps there are prerequisites you haven’t fullfilled, or there may be other restrictions. In that case, the CUNYfirst system will tell you why you were unsuccessful.
